BIDDING FAREWELL TO HIS GURU

His Holiness Dhyanyogi Madhusudandasji had handed over the Gadi or Seat of the Guru to Dhyanyogi Omdasji and for the past several years was living in a small flat in Ahmedabad with one of his close disciples. Omdasji used to visit him regularly. During one such visit, Dhyanyogi Madhusudandasji instructed Dhyanyogi Omdasji regarding the manner of performing the “final rites” for a Guru and revealed the spot he had chosen for his mahasamadhi in Hansol Ashram. Thus Dhyanyogi Madhusudandasji handed over the responsibility of his final rites to Dhyanyogi Omdasji.

Dhyanyogi Madhusudandasji left his physical body on 29th August 1994 on the holy day of Gokulashtami at the age of 116.With due respect to his wishes and the instructions given, Omdasji performed his last rites.

DHYANYOGI OMDASJI PERFORMING LAST RITES FOR HIS GURU

Hindu traditions dictate that the son or closest male member of the deceased performs the last rites and ceremonies. Omdasji being the Gadipati and the chosen successor of Dhyanyogi Madhusudandasji performed the last rites as per the wishes and instructions of his Guru Dhyanyogi Madhusudandasji.

Thousands of disciples from all over the world, saints, representatives from various political parties, prominent citizens and people from all walks of life came to witness the last rites of Dhyanyogi Madhusudandasji. Vedic chants were sung as the sandalwood pyre was lit by Omdasji.Omdasji also performed the traditional rites of donation of cash, gold, silver, cows and clothes.
